Week Four

Until this week, all my models were ready and the skeleton of my newly created character was bound.

For the lens, I have started making the lens.

The monster model is also complete and we are ready to start applying materials and skeleton bindings.

Next week I will start working on the animation

Final major project

Creative Inspiration:

For my final project, I wanted to create a story about a man and a monster. This was inspired by two of my favorite games, Pokémon and Monster Hunter. These two games each show the harmony between man and monster. As well as the courage and fearlessness of people in the face of powerful monsters. I wanted to combine these two feelings. To build a story of lost people rescuing monster cubs and monsters helping people out of their predicament. I tried to convey that although people may feel scared when facing something powerful, just face it with a kind heart. In the end, you will reap the rewards of any creature.

Storyline:

In an abandoned cave, an explorer wakes up from a coma, he lights a torch in his hand and wonders how to get out of the cave. As he searches for a way out he finds a wounded young monster in a corner. He was terrified, but went up and bandaged the little monster’s wounds. Just as he was about to leave, a low roar came from deep within the cave. After that, the whole cave began to shake. A vast monster’s head poked out of the darkness of the cave. The explorer sat down on the ground in fear. Not knowing what would happen below. Just when he himself thought there was no hope of survival. The little monster next to him screamed out. The big monster then showed the explorer the way with his Paws and disappeared into the cave. Eventually, the explorer made it out of the cave.

Research:

My story takes place mainly in a cave. So my whole style will use caves in games or movies as a reference. For the explorer’s look, I mainly want to refer to mountaineer’s costumes. For the monster look, I want to make monsters like in Monster Hunter. Here are the references I’ve found.

PERSONAL PROJECT WEEK 10

This is my final work

I am generally satisfied with this project. I learned a lot of new software and knowledge through this project. I also tried to incorporate Nuke into my project.

But this time I think there are still a lot of regrets about the project. Because many of the results did not meet my expectations. I will continue to work hard in my future studies so that I can learn more. In the future, I will continue to improve my work.

PERSONAL PROJECT WEEK 09

This week all my shots have been produced. First I started with a simple composite of all the sequence frames in AE.

I then exported the video and imported it into pr to adjust the colors and add some simple visual effects.

I also found a lot of sound effects from epidemicsound. To make my own films richer and more complete.

PERSONAL PROJECT WEEK 08

Due to a series of problems found during the synthesis last week. So this week I’ve reshot some more videos. And composited it.

The re-shot footage gives my film a more complete link. And it also gives me a richer camera language.

I also gave a 1to1 talk this week and Mr. Christos gave some advice on my work. I also expect to do the final compositing and editing next week.

PERSONAL PROJECT WEEK 07

This week I continued with the compositing of the footage.

This week I rendered another angle of the portal. This also consumed a lot of my time

I’ve had a bit of trouble this week. The main thing is that there was a slight flaw in the footage I shot. So Tony and I agreed to book the green screen room again for next week. To re-shoot a little bit more footage.

Next week I also start working on editing and colour grading all the video clips.

PERSONAL PROJECT WEEK 06

This week I started to process the green screen footage that I shot. And trying to composite some of the footage.

For the portal shots, I mainly tracked the whole video. The portal is then made to follow the movement of the camera. Afterward I also created shadows for the portal. And the colors were adjusted for the portal.

Regarding the handling of green screen material. I mainly use the keylight node for green screen keying.

After that, I copied a video for color grading and adjustment. Went to create a shadow for the main video. To make the whole video look more realistic.

I still have some hesitation about the choice of background. At first, I wanted to make a void scene myself. But for reasons of time. I then found video footage of smoke and stars on the internet. I used these two clips for color grading to create a virtual space.

Next week I will be putting the remaining videos through their final compositions.

PERSONAL PROJECT WEEK 04

This week, I started making the items needed for the CG. A magic mirror as well as a portal of particles.

I have searched the internet a lot for what a magic mirror looks like. Finally, I chose a traditional magic mirror made of wood.

I started by making a model of a magic mirror from the picture using Maya. Afterward, I will give it materially.

This week I have also finished making the portal for my Houdini production. The next step is to do the rendering.

All the items I need to make have been made. Next week I will start working on the textures for the models and rendering the portals. And get the green screen material started.

PERSONAL PROJECT WEEK 05

This week I have started working on my model by creating materials and rendering particle effects.

Once the textures were finished I added ambient and point light sources to the entire magic mirror based on the lighting of the production scene. Finally, I added shadows around the mirror. This gave the whole image a more realistic look.

After that, I started to render the whole environment.

I also started rendering my particles. As I render the quality is very high. So a picture in about 20 minutes. This also reduces my efficiency considerably. But the good thing is that the result is ok.

Next week I will start compositing some of the shots to see how the whole thing looks.
